Collection and recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
In 2002 the European Union introduced the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The main aim of the Directive is to ensure that WEEE is collected and treated separately. WEEE may contain hazardous substances that should not end-up in the (human) environment and can have adverse effects on it if they do.
Furthermore, WEEE is a vast source of raw materials. With the ever rising worldwide demand for new equipment and the ever decreasing volume of natural raw materials, letting this potential source go to waste is unacceptable.
If equipment is collected separately, the equipment can be recycled and up to 85 to 90% of the equipment can be re-used as new material, saving the use of virgin raw materials and energy of producing these.
The WEEE directive and national WEEE legislations require that in every EU country and Norway and Switzerland, producers or importers register with the authorities and that collection and recycling of WEEE is arranged for.

Under the WEEE directive and national WEEE legislations, the financing of the management of WEEE may be transferred from the manufacturer to the users in case no sales entity of Sakura Finetek is present in the country the buyer resides in.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing between Sakura Finetek Europe B.V. and the Buyer, Sakura Finetek expects the Buyer to be responsible for financing the collection, treatment, recovery, recycling and environmentally sound disposal of all WEEE arising or deriving from the Products and all WEEE arising or deriving from products already on the market as of August 13, 2005.
Furthermore Sakura Finetek Europe BV also expects the Buyer to comply with all additional obligations placed upon the users by the WEEE regulations in the country the Buyer resides in.
The above-mentioned obligations shall be passed on by successive professional buyers to the final user of the WEEE, always under the Buyer’s responsibility.
Non compliance by the Buyer with the above-mentioned obligations may lead to the application of criminal sanctions, as laid down in the applicable national transposition legislation and/or regulations.
Under the WEEE directive, Sakura Finetek Europe BV will label all systems with the ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ symbol.
This label indicates the user of the product that Sakura Finetek Europe BV products are to be disposed of and recycled separately from other and regular waste streams. Only in this way the environmentally sound and beneficial re-use of Sakura Finetek Europe BV products is ensured.
